Professor Terence Seemungal is Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences which comprises five schools (Medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine and nursing). Prof. Seemungal completed his MBBS (hons) degree at UWI and then proceeded to London where he did a PhD on the chronic lung disease, COPD and COPD exacerbation caused by respiratory viruses and completed the specialist training programme in internal and respiratory medicine. He returned to Trinidad in 2003 as Senior Lecturer in medicine and in 2008 he started the postgraduate training programme in Internal Medicine. In 2011, Professor Seemungal was elected President of the newly founded Thoracic Society of Trinidad and Tobago. In April 2020 he was appointed as a Member of the UWI COVID-19 Task Force. His professional career has been focused on teaching and research and in 2017 he and his team completed the first National Study of chronic lung disease.
