Biography/Responsibilities/Duties:

Terri-Ann has over 18 years of experience in research, policy and programme formulation in international development, regionalism and youth participation in labour markets, justice systems and governance processes. She has worked in project management and political advisory roles with the Governments of Canada and Jamaica; and served as advisor to the United Nations, Commonwealth Secretariat, CARICOM Secretariat and the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC). She was appointed by the UN Secretary-General to the Advisory Group of Experts for the Global Progress Study on Youth Peace and Security, mandated by the Security Council.

As an activist researcher, she is interested in practical ways to support people’s participation in the Politics of Development, through democratic governance processes. She explores those interests in her writing and teaching in Development Studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI). She is Research Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies where she chairs the “50/50 Youth” Research Cluster which supports evidence-based youth policies and programmes in the Caribbean.  

She is author of “The Politics of Integration: Caribbean Sovereignty Revisited”, Ian Randle, 2013; Editor of “Youthscapes’ of Development in the Caribbean and Latin America”, 2014; and Co-Editor of “Pan-Caribbean Integration: Beyond CARICOM”, Routledge, 2018 (with Patsy Lewis and Jessica Byron).

Terri-Ann holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Sheffield, an MSc in Development Planning (Distinction) from University College London and a BSc (First Class Honours) in International Relations from the University of the West Indies.
