Biography/Responsibilities/Duties:

Prof. Muthuri is a globally recognized scholar and award-winning leader in teaching and research on sustainability, ethics, and responsible business. She joins MSBS from the Nottingham University Business School (UK) where she was a Professor of Sustainable Business and Development, the Director of the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility, and the Chair of the Social and Environmental Responsibility Group. 

She played pivotal roles in providing high-level strategic and practical guidance on embedding sustainability into the curriculum, research, student learning experience, and external partnerships. As an academic lead for Education for Sustainable Development, she has pioneered experiential learning, and leveraged industry partnerships and global networks to embed sustainability into education, business practice, and government policies.

Prof. Muthuri is widely published with 21 peer-reviewed journal articles, 1 handbook, 6 edited books, 10 book chapters, 2 documentary films, and 11 policy reports. She has also guest-edited four special journal issues. She adopts an engaged, high-impact and multidisciplinary research approach that has helped shape policy and practice across Africa. In December 2024, her contributions earned her the Government of Kenya’s Elimu Award for advancing higher education in Kenya. 

Prof. Muthuri also mentors early career scholars.  She has successfully supervised 9 PhD students to completion and has externally examined 10 external PhD vivas. She is a sought-after keynote and guest speaker/lecturer and advisor for various university promotion boards, research bodies, and awards judging panels. She serves on several journal editorial and advisory boards and is the Section Editor for Global Issues at the Journal of Business Ethics (Financial Times-listed).  

She is a founding member of several key academic organizations, including the Africa Academy of Management, where she currently serves as Vice President and Membership Director, and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (UN PRME Chapter Africa) where she is the Diaspora Representative.
