Biography/Responsibilities/Duties:

Dr. Shazeeda Ali is an attorney-at-law and the Dean of the Faculty of Law (MonaLaw) at the University of the West Indies (UWI).  She is the former Course Director in Ethics, Rights and Obligations of the Legal Profession at the Norman Manley Law School.

Dr. Ali served as the technical advisor in the Attorney General’s Chambers of Jamaica. She has presented and published a number of papers on financial services regulation, financial crime and legal ethics. She is the author of the books Money Laundering Control in the Caribbean and Proceeds of Crime Act: Taking the Profit Out of Crime. She is also a contributor and the editor of the books The Ethical Lawyer: A Caribbean Perspective and Risky Business: Perspectives on Corporate Misconduct.

Dr. Ali has a Bachelor of Laws from the UWI, a Master of Laws from Cambridge University and the PhD from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London. She was called to the Bar in Jamaica and Guyana.

Dr Ali was appointed Acting Dean, Faculty of Law for the period August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019 and then appointed as Dean effective August 1, 2019.
