Dr. Timothy Affonso was admitted to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago in 2006. After admission to practice, he worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Trinidad and Tobago. He then worked briefly at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being awarded the Chevening Scholarship to pursue his Masters of Law at the University College London in Public Law and Human Rights. He has also worked at the Central Authority Unit in the Ministry of the Attorney General in Trinidad and Tobago, where he worked on extraditions and mutual legal assistance. He joined the Faculty of Law in August 2011 and has taught Contract Law, Criminal Law, Real Property, International Human Rights Law, Legal Methods, Research and Writing, Caribbean Human Rights Law, International Mooting and Supervised Independent Research Paper. He has served on several Campus committees: Examinations, Academic Advising, Occupational Health and Safety.
He has a passion for international mooting and has published in this area. His areas of academic interest are public international law, rights of the child and international human rights law. He has also served as the Chairman of two State Boards of Directors and has led the Faculty’s legal aid outreach programme since its inception.
Dr. Affonso currently serves as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus and the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs.
