Biography

Nicola Paterson (B.A., M.A.) is a Senior Project Officer in the Office of Planning and Institutional Research at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. She provides various metrics related to student retention and graduation, student satisfaction with teaching and services, and student outcomes in the labour market to assist in decision making and quality assurance. Her studies on student retention and academic success have been published in the International Journal of Educational Development 55, Journal of Underrepresented and Minority Progress, 1(1), Journal of Education and Development in the Caribbean 15(1) and Caribbean Journal of Education 41(1).

Responsibilities

  • Provide statistical information on enrolment, graduation and staff resources to key stakeholders in order to inform decision-making.
  • Interface with the University Office of Planning to develop and monitor performance indicators as specified in the University Strategic Plan.
  • Conduct a number of student surveys including Tracer Surveys of First and Higher Degree Graduates and Undergraduate Student Experience/Satisfaction Survey.
  • Conduct Employer Surveys of First and Higher Degree Graduates on a regular basis.
  • Supply information on FTEs, projected enrolment, and throughput rates to departments and staff of the University of the West Indies in support of their research interests and for inclusion in special reports.
  • Respond to regular and ad hoc requests for data by resourceful use of software such as Banner Student Information System, Qualtrics and Argos.
