Professor Abel is Head of Community Health and Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Jamaica. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, diploma and Doctor of Medicine from The UWI, Mona Jamaica and a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.The Hubert Humphrey Scholar is a a lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at UWI Mona and a prolific researcher in several key areas. A strong proponent of community mental health Dr. Abel is a member of the UWI COVID-19 Task force.
