Professor Reisha Rafeek

Professor Reisha Rafeek graduated from Guy's Hospital Dental School, University of London in 1990 with Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and obtained her Master's with Distinction at the Eastman Dental Institute, London in 1998. She completed her Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FDS RCS) in 1999.
She is currently Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus at Mount Hope and Professor, Restorative Dentistry, at the School of Dentistry, UWI. She is also in specialist private practice, has served on the executive of the Dental Council of Trinidad & Tobago (DCTT), the Trinidad & Tobago Dental Association (TTDA) and was an executive member of the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) from 2010-2016. She has been awarded a Fellowship of the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics (IADFE) in 2018, elected a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry (FCGDent) in the UK and more recently in 2024 been awarded a Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FDSRCS Ed.).
Professor Rafeek’s research themes have centered around undergraduate dental education, dental material science, restorative dental techniques, and oral rehabilitation. Most recently, her research has focused on the oral microbiome and its role in oral diseases. Professor Rafeek has published 35 peer-reviewed journal articles, one book chapter and has made 26 oral and poster presentations at international research conferences. She also contributes as a peer-reviewer for multiple international journals and was appointed to the Editorial Board for Scientific Reports (impact Factor 4.6) a Nature publication, in 2015.
