Biography/Responsibilities/Duties:

Kathleen Monteith is Professor of Caribbean History, and teaches courses in history methodology, Caribbean social, economic and business history, West Indian Hisoriography. Her major publications are, Plantation Coffee in Jamaica, 1790-1848 (2019); Depression to Decolonisation. Barclays Bank (DCO) in the West Indies, 1926-1962 (2008), West Indian Business History: Enterprise and Entrepreneurship ( 2010) co-edited with B.W. Higman; and Jamaica in Slavery & Freedom. History, Heritage & Culture (2002) co-edited with Glen Richards. She is currently the Editor of the Journal of Caribbean History, a peer-reviewed journal published twice per year in June and December.

Her research focus includes the history of banking, commodities, entrepreneurship, regional economic history, biography, globalisation and transnational business history.
