Biography/Responsibilities/Duties:

Dr. Kathleen Monteith is Senior Lecturer in History and teaches courses in history methodology and business history at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her courses include Introduction to History, Banking in the Commonwealth Caribbean 1830-1990 and Oral History: Value & Techniques. Her major publications include, Depression to Decolonisation. Barclays Bank (DCO) in the West Indies, 1926-1962 (Kingston: UWI Press, 2008), West Indian Business History: Enterprise and Entrepreneurship ( Kingston: UWI Press, 2010) co-edited with B.W. Higman and Jamaica in Slavery & Freedom. History, Heritage & Culture (Kingston: UWI Press, 2002) co-edited with Glen Richards. Dr. Monteith's research is in the area of banking, commercial and agricultural enterprise in the 19th and 20th centuries. She is currently working in a major monograph on plantation coffee in Jamaica.
