Biography
Dr. Mahuvava is a Lecturer in Medical Physics in the Physics Department of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus. He is certified both as a professional physicist and as a medical physicist. He received his MSc and PhD degree in Medical Physics from the University of the Free State as well as an Honours degree in Medical Physics from the University of Cape Town and a bachelor’s degree in Computational Physics from the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. In the past few years, Dr. Mahuvava has made novel research progress in advanced radiation dosimetry; including significant contributions to the upcoming AAPM TG-319 dosimetry protocol, which provides guidelines for accurate dose calculations in radiation biology experiments. Recently, he won the finalist award at the Worldwide Innovations in Medical Physics (WIMP) scholarship competition for early-career physicists. Presently, working on establishing local DRLs in Trinidad & Tobago. Dr. Mahuvava intends to run his own research lab at UWI in the near future.
