This exploratory study examines the relationship between the growth of tourism in Quintana Roo, Mexico & its impact on the culture of the Maya. It is argued that there is a direct relationship between the growth of tourism in the State of Quintana Roo & the resurgence of Maya culture, especially their language. In light of this situation, it is recommended that indigenous tourism may be a suitable & sustainable option that can be pursued by the state. This type of tourism would not only enhance the cultural development of the Mayan people, but would also give them a greater stake in the industry, thereby improving their economic situation & further enhancing their culture.
